The 33-year-old is eager to seal a move to Stamford Bridge, drawn by the prospect of a reunion with new manager Xabi Alonso, whom he previously played under at Bayer Leverkusen.
With the player on board, the blues has initiated formal transfer talks with Sunderland AFC. The Blues have launched an initial bid in the region of €30 million to test the waters. While club-to-club negotiations are moving forward, a final fee has not yet been locked down.
Xhaka is coming off a sensational campaign with Sunderland after arriving from the Bundesliga in 2025. The deal ties Palestra to the club until 2032, with Chelsea holding an option to trigger a one-year extension through to 2033.
