Rasmus Højlund speaks on his decision to exit Man United

Former Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund has opened up about his decision to join Napoli, admitting he felt he had no choice but to leave Old Trafford.

Speaking to the media while on international duty with Denmark, the forward revealed that exiting United in the summer of 2025 was the best decision for his career. After a difficult period in England where he struggled for form and faced heavy criticism, Højlund admitted he felt his time at the club was effectively over.

What did Rasmus Højlund say concerning his time at Napoli?

Now thriving in Italy under Antonio Conte, the Danish international is convinced he made the right call as his performances and goalscoring form continue to improve.

“At one point, it felt like it was over for me, but here at Napoli, I’ve again discovered my love for football. People back in Denmark were writing me off, but I never stopped believing,” Højlund said.

“I know I didn’t perform well during my final months at Manchester United, but things have changed now. They said I was finished, but I never gave up. At Napoli, I feel joy again.”
