Chelsea welcomes Mykhailo Mudryk from CAS suspension

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially closed the book on Mykhailo Mudryk’s anti-doping legal battle, clearing the Chelsea winger to return to action after almost two years suspension from competitive football.

The landmark ruling resolves one of the sport’s most prominent disciplinary sagas, granting the Ukraine international immediate eligibility to play following a successful appeal process.

Why Was the CAS Suspension Lifted?

Mudryk was initially slapped with a four-year ban after testing positive for meldonium. The 25-year-old maintained his innocence throughout, arguing he never intentionally consumed a banned substance, and took his case to CAS.

The turning point came via revised World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) technical guidelines. Under the newly updated reporting thresholds, the specific trace concentration found in Mudryk’s sample no longer constitutes a violation. Following consultations between WADA, the FA, and Mudryk’s representatives, all parties agreed to reduce his sentence to time already served.

Mudryk’s Response

Reacting to the verdict, Mudryk labeled the past two years as the most challenging stretch of his footballing journey. He expressed deep gratitude toward Chelsea, his teammates, family, and the fans for their unwavering backing while reaffirming his commitment to clean sport.

Chelsea’s Official Position

Chelsea issued a statement celebrating the decision, confirming their full support for the winger. The club’s immediate priority is bringing Mudryk back to peak physical condition so head coach Xabi Alonso can reintegrate him into the matchday squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
