Former Man City player João Cancelo joins Barcelona

Barcelona has officially strengthened their defense for the 2025/26 campaign by securing Portuguese full-back João Cancelo. Following swift negotiations to beat out rival interest, Barça finalized a short-term loan agreement with Al Hilal to bring the defender back to Spain.

Cancelo’s tactical versatility on both flanks and his extensive Champions League experience are viewed as vital assets for the club’s pursuit of domestic and European titles. During his initial 2023/24 stint with the Catalan side – following a departure from Manchester City – Cancelo was a mainstay in the lineup, contributing four goals and five assists.

What Jersey Number will João Cancelo wear?

Upon his return, he will once again don the No. 2 jersey, reclaiming the same squad number he wore during his first successful spell with the club.
