The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially announced the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. The exams were successfully administered earlier this year, running from April 20 through April 30, 2026.
Data provided by the council reveals that 186,291 students across Nigeria’s 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five international countries enrolled for the 12-subject assessment.
The official rollout of the results followed a meeting of the 2026 BECE Award Committee at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State. The session was led by Dr. (Mrs.) Folake Olatunji David, the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who attended on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.
Why did NECO annouce BECE re-sit dates despite releasing Results?
Additionally, the committee finalized the timeline for the 2026 BECE makeup exams. These supplementary tests are scheduled for July 22 and July 23, 2026, and will focus strictly on English Studies and Mathematics.
NECO noted that these re-sit papers are designed specifically for students who fell short in either English, Mathematics, or both core areas. By providing this second chance, the council aims to help students clear their academic deficiencies so they can seamlessly transition into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) rather than losing an entire school year.
The updates were made public via an official statement from Azeez Sani, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations.
