Pep Guardiola’s contract situation at Man City

Share

Pep Guardiola has addressed the swirling rumors regarding his departure from Manchester City, firmly shutting down speculation that he might leave the Etihad this summer.

Speaking ahead of the crucial Premier League fixture against Liverpool on February 9, 2026, the Spaniard clarified that his commitment to the club remains unchanged. Pep emphasized that he intends to honor the full term of his current deal, which runs through the 2026/27 season.

Reaffirming his stance, he noted that he has no plans to exit at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. When pressed on the matter, he remarked:

“No, because I have one more year on my contract… The question on that was one or two months ago – you were not here – and I’ll tell you again: it’s the same answer I gave then [I’m staying].”

A Record-Breaking Legacy

Since arriving from Bayern Munich in 2016, Guardiola has elevated Manchester City to the pinnacle of global football. His tenure has been defined by a total rewriting of the Premier League record books, most notably becoming the first manager in English top-flight history to secure four consecutive league titles—a feat previously thought impossible.

A Challenging Transition

Despite his historic success, the past two seasons have been uncharacteristically difficult for both Guardiola and the City faithful. However, this season offers a glimmer of hope; the club has secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final, where they are set to face current league leaders Arsenal.

The Title Race Stakes

Manchester City currently sits second in the Premier League table, trailing Arsenal by five points and holding a slim one-point lead over Aston Villa. The stakes for this weekend’s clash with Liverpool couldn’t be higher; a defeat could see City slide to third place, potentially pushing the title out of reach for the former champions.
