Ex-Chelsea Striker set for Premier League comeback

Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is poised to make a high-profile return to the Premier League this month, with Aston Villa reportedly closing in on a £25 million deal to sign him from Turkish giants Beşiktaş.

The move marks a significant homecoming for the 28-year-old, who remains a celebrated figure at Villa Park. Abraham’s previous stint in the Midlands – a prolific loan spell during the 2018-19 season – saw him net 26 goals to help secure the club’s promotion from the Championship.

Tactical Reinforcement

Unai Emery has identified the England international as the primary candidate to bolster his attacking rotation. With Villa navigating a congested schedule across domestic competitions and the Champions League, Abraham is expected to provide essential cover and competition for lead striker Ollie Watkins.

Club insiders indicate that negotiations are in the advanced stages. Technical staff view Abraham’s physical profile and aerial dominance as a seamless fit for Emery’s high-pressing tactical setup.

International Ambitions

Since leaving the Premier League in 2021, Abraham has gained significant European experience during a three-year tenure at AS Roma before his recent move to the Süper Lig. While West Ham and Everton were reportedly monitoring his availability, sources say Abraham was sold on the ambition of the current Villa project.

For the player, the transfer offers a critical platform to catch the eye of England selectors. With the 2026 World Cup looming this summer, a return to scoring form in England’s top flight is seen as his best path back into the national squad.

Statement of Intent at Premier League

The acquisition would represent a major mid-season investment for the Villa board. By securing a proven goalscorer with Champions League experience, the club is signaling its intent to transition from European outsiders to permanent fixtures among the Premier League’s elite.
