Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has shut down rumors connecting Julián Álvarez to a potential Barcelona’s transfer, declaring the Argentine striker strictly off-limits.
Responding to intensifying speculation about Barcelona’s pursuit of Julián Álvarez, Cerezo confirmed that Atlético has no desire to let go of the forward, who remains central to manager Diego Simeone’s future strategies at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Addressing the situation directly, Cerezo stated:
“Joan Laporta is a good friend and he already knows where Julián Alvarez is going to play next season. Let me insist: Julián is our player and will be our player next season.”
These remarks follow an admission from Barcelona president Joan Laporta that the Catalan giants had indeed tabled a bid for the ex-Manchester City star. Nevertheless, Atlético’s hierarchy refuses to budge, maintaining that they will not enter negotiations for the World Cup champion.
Cerezo emphasized that the club intends to anchor its domestic and European ambitions around Álvarez, whose stellar performances since arriving from England have made him an indispensable asset. While Barcelona’s interest persists, Cerezo’s firm stance indicates that a transfer is highly unlikely.po
