The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon have claimed the crown of African women’s football following a decisive 3-0 win against Malawi in the WAFCON 2026 final held in Rabat, putting an end to decades of disappointment to capture their maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
After suffering defeats in three previous WAFCON finals, the Lionesses put on a dominant performance to finally snap their losing streak. Marie Ngah put in a standout effort in the title match, capping a stellar run for Cameroon that featured victories over both the reigning champions, Nigeria, and tournament hosts, Morocco.
A key architect of their success was 22-year-old goalkeeper Michaely Bihina, who was awarded the Golden Glove for her exceptional display throughout the tournament. She made nine vital saves in the match against Nigeria, stopped three spot-kicks in the semi-final shootout with Morocco, and pitched another clean sheet during the final to lock down the historic victory.
