Lionel Messi is poised to make another significant venture into football ownership after reaching a preliminary agreement to purchase the Spanish second-tier outfit CD Eldense.

The former Barcelona legend, who spent the vast majority of his career in Spain, is looking to reinvest in the country where he built his legacy. He is on the verge of acquiring 100% of the shares held by Colombian firm TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., the current majority owner of Eldense.

This proposed buyout would make Messi the sole proprietor of the LaLiga 2 side, adding a new team to his expanding football investment portfolio. The deal remains pending final completion, as it still requires standard administrative and legal procedures, including thorough due diligence and formal approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD).

If finalized, Eldense would mark Messi’s second club investment in Spain within the year. The eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient previously secured full ownership of fifth-tier Spanish club UE Cornellà in April 2026.

Finalizing the Eldense transaction would place the global football icon at the helm of two Spanish teams operating at different tiers of the country’s football system. Messi is pursuing these ownership ventures while actively continuing his playing career with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

What will Lionel Messi face after the club purchase?

Messi’s potential arrival comes during a challenging stretch on the pitch for Eldense, as the team currently sits 20th in the Segunda División and is still seeking its initial league victory of the campaign, having secured just two points from its opening fixtures.

Despite these recent struggles, Eldense has experienced steady progress in recent years. After a long period spent in Spain’s lower regional leagues, the team successfully climbed back into the second division and is now attracting widespread international attention due to Messi’s impending buyout.

A New Era for Eldense?

Should the transaction be finalized, Messi’s involvement has the potential to completely revamp Eldense’s commercial standing and global reach. Having one of football’s most celebrated figures at the helm will undoubtedly drive unprecedented global visibility, spark new commercial partnerships, and bring greater focus to the club’s long-term sporting project.
