The Ghana Football Association announced on Thursday that it reached a mutual agreement with Carlos Queiroz to terminate his contract following a difficult start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Queiroz resumed his second tenure with the national team on September 3, but this latest chapter concluded after only two qualifying fixtures. Consecutive setbacks during the September international window – a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast and a 4-2 defeat against Gambia – prompted the early termination.
In a statement regarding his exit, the GFA noted that the resolution emerged from discussions held with the best interests of the Black Stars and the nation’s football framework in mind.

Queiroz remarked that he returned aiming to strengthen the squad and foster domestic player development, though he conceded that recent outcomes and surrounding difficulties influenced the choice to dissolve the arrangement.
What does this Sack mean for Ghana Football Team?
This marks the second time the manager has vacated the role within a few months. The former Real Madrid boss initially took over in April as Otto Addo’s successor, leading the team to the World Cup where they advanced past the group stage via draws against England and defeats to Croatia, before being eliminated in the round of 32 by Colombia. He initially resigned following that tournament before being reappointed roughly two months afterward.
The GFA has not yet named a successor to steer the team as they attempt to recover from their initial qualifying setbacks ahead of AFCON 2027.
