Morgan Rogers has opened up about his decision to choose Chelsea over Arsenal, citing the club’s ambitious long-term plans and the opportunity to work under manager Xabi Alonso as the main drivers behind his move.
The England attacker finalized a landmark move from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly valued at £117 million – setting a new British transfer record. Although Arsenal actively tracked the 23-year-old throughout the summer transfer window, Chelsea ultimately secured his signature.
Morgan Rogers Reaching a New Milestone
Following the official announcement, Rogers shared his enthusiasm for the transition to west London:
“I’m so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid.”
The Xabi Alonso Factor
Beyond the club’s history, conversations with head coach Xabi Alonso proved crucial in convincing Rogers that Stamford Bridge was the right destination for his career growth. He noted that Alonso’s tactical philosophy aligns perfectly with his natural playing style:
“The size of the club, the stature, the progression and the way that the club wants to move forward… I’ve had a few conversations with him. It very much fits with the way I see the game, the way I want to play, and the way I want to be me and express myself. Him being a part of that was a massive factor in me being here.”
With the deal complete, Chelsea will look for Rogers to replicate his standout performances from Aston Villa as the team aims for major silverware under Alonso’s leadership.
