NPFL increase prize money to 1 billion

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a landmark increase in prize money ahead of the 2026/2027 season, aimed at boosting the league’s competitiveness and commercial appeal.

This unprecedented funding injection represents one of the most significant moments in NPFL history. League administrators expect the windfall to help clubs improve infrastructure, elevate player welfare, and build a more sustainable domestic competition capable of producing world-class talent.

Breakdown of NPFL new prize money

Under the historic new structure, the league champions will pocket a staggering ₦1 billion – a fivefold increase from the previous ₦200 million payout. The financial boost extends down the podium, with the runners-up set to earn ₦500 million and the third-place finishers taking home ₦300 million.
