The management of Paul University, Awka, has placed a staff member, Ven Cornelius C Eze, on indefinite suspension following a viral video of the employee partially clothed in a maize plantation, where he had reportedly fled through a window to escape hostile students following allegations of sexual harassment.

The suspension was confirmed on Friday in a media release by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Rev’d Godsplan Onukwufor. The university noted that the measure will remain in place while internal disciplinary panels and police authorities conduct their investigations.

Clarification on the Institution Involved

This announcement follows a disclaimer issued just a day prior by Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), also located in Awka. Social media rumors had initially linked the individual in the video to UNIZIK. However, the university quickly clarified on Thursday that the event did not take place on its grounds and that the man involved had no affiliation with the institution.

Paul University has now identified the individual as Ven. Cornelius C. Eze, who works as a Practical Biology Technologist within the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences.

University Action and Security Intervention

According to the official statement, the university administration was first alerted to the accusations on Tuesday, July 14, prompting immediate steps to address the situation. To manage rising tensions among the student body and preserve public order, the school management handed the matter over to the relevant law enforcement agency.

“As a preliminary administrative measure and without prejudice to the outcome of ongoing investigations, the University Management has placed the staff on indefinite suspension pending the conclusion of both the internal disciplinary process and any investigations being conducted by the appropriate law enforcement authorities,” the release stated.

Commitment to Campus Safety and Ethics

As a faith-based university, the administration emphasized its foundational dedication to honor, strict discipline, high moral standards, and human dignity. The statement made it clear that the school maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual harassment, inappropriate behavior, exploitation of authority, or any actions that threaten the security and well-being of the campus community.

Management affirmed that any student or worker found guilty of breaching university codes or federal laws will face strict penalties through established legal channels.

It reassured stakeholders, parents, and students that the inquiry would be handled with absolute fairness, transparency, and legal integrity, reinforcing its promise to provide a secure and morally upright educational environment.
