Stamford Bridge is set to feature UEFA Champions League matches during the 2026/27 campaign, with Ukrainian club FC Shakhtar Donetsk using Chelsea’s home ground as their venue for European fixtures. Pending final administrative approval, Shakhtar will stage their Champions League league phase home games in West London.

This dynamic is possible because Chelsea missed out on European qualification following a tough 2025/26 season, leaving their stadium open for international competition. The arrangement stems directly from the persistent armed conflict in Ukraine. Unable to host European ties in Donetsk for years, Shakhtar has been obliged to stage its continental fixtures across various European venues, including past stints in Hamburg and Warsaw.

Selecting London for the 2026/27 tournament provides the club with a top-tier arena, while Chelsea’s lack of European fixtures ensures the ground is available. Chelsea confirmed its support for hosting Shakhtar in London, noting that management teams from both clubs are collaborating to manage matchday safety and operations effectively.
