Bellingham wins 2024/25 men’s English player Award

Real Madrid star, Jude Bellingham has been named the best English player for the 2024/25 season, beating out strong contenders like Declan Rice.

At just 21 years old, Bellingham made history by becoming the second player based outside of England to secure the prestigious award since Owen Hargreaves achieved the feat in 2006/07. The midfielder played a crucial role in England’s success throughout the qualifying campaign.

Key performances included helping the team secure promotion in the UEFA Nations League under former interim boss Lee Carsley last autumn, as well as contributing to their strong start in the FIFA 2026 World Cup European Qualifiers under new head coach Thomas Tuchel in March and June.

Why is Jude Bellingham named the best English player of the year?

His instrumental form was evident in the 3-1 victory over Greece at Wembley in October, where he also secured the Player of the Match award in a dominant 5-0 win against the Republic of Ireland in November. Furthermore, he registered assists against both Ireland and Albania in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory in March, which marked Thomas Tuchel’s first match in charge of the Three Lions.

Bellingham has not yet featured for England this season but is expected to be named in the upcoming squad announcement on Friday for the October fixtures against Wales and Latvia. He was unavailable for selection last month as he was recovering from planned surgery on a shoulder injury.
