After consecutive Group B defeats – a 99–81 loss to South Korea and a 71-67 loss to Hungary – Nigeria’s D’Tigress have been knocked out of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin.

However, France’s 95-69 victory over South Korea sealed Nigeria’s fate, making it impossible for head coach Rena Wakama’s team to qualify for the knockout stage due to head-to-head tiebreaker rules, even with a win in their remaining match.

What does this elimination from 2026 FIBA Women’s competition mean for D’Tigress?

The early exit comes as a heavy blow to the reigning African champions, who were aiming to build on their 2024 Paris Olympics performance and match or improve upon their program-best eighth-place finish from the 2018 World Cup quarter-finals. D’Tigress will wrap up their tournament against France with only pride on the line.
