7 warning signs of Snakes sharing your space

If you’re feeling uneasy, take a breath and stop searching for the animal itself. Instead, look for these 7 clear warning signs that snakes might be sharing your space.

It’s completely understandable to be on edge after what happened with Ifunanya. Every little creak or shadow can feel like a threat right now. But remember, snakes aren’t invisible; they are physical creatures that leave physical evidence behind.

Take Note of this 7 signs of snakes around your house/office

1. Discarded Skin (The “Ghost” Outfit)

This is the most undeniable proof of a resident. Snakes shed their skin as they grow, usually seeking out dark, secluded spots like ceilings, storage rooms, or under beds to do so. If you find a dry, translucent, papery husk, you definitely have a neighbor.

2. Distinctive Droppings

It’s unpleasant but necessary to check. Snake poop often resembles bird droppings—dark with white streaks—but with a gruesome twist: they frequently contain undigested fur, feathers, or tiny bones. If you find “hairy” droppings in your corners, a predator has been eating nearby.

3. An Unusual “Musky” Odor

Does a particular room suddenly smell like rotten eggs, damp earth, or even cucumbers? Many snakes (especially cobras) release a distinct musk when they are settled or threatened. If a corner of your home smells “funky” for no apparent reason, don’t just reach for the air freshener – stay alert.

4. Slither Tracks in the Dust

Check the neglected areas: under the cupboard, the back of the pantry, or the soil near your windows. A winding, “S-shaped” trail in the dust is essentially a map showing you exactly where a snake has traveled.

5. A Sudden Lack of Pests

Did your “rat problem” mysteriously vanish overnight? Have the wall geckos stopped chirping? Before you celebrate the peace and quiet, consider that a larger predator may have moved in and cleared out the “cafeteria.”

6. “Sandpaper” Noises

Listen closely at night. Rats produce a frantic “pitter-patter” sound, but snakes make a faint, rhythmic scratching or sliding noise—similar to two pieces of sandpaper being rubbed together—as they move through ceilings or crawl spaces.

7. Strange Pet Behavior

Your animals have senses far beyond ours. If your cat suddenly refuses to enter a room, or your dog is growling at a “blank” wall or staring intensely under the dining table, trust their instincts. They are likely detecting a scent or vibration you can’t perceive.

Stay Safe: If you find these signs, do not go hunting for the snake yourself. That “hidden guest” could be highly venomous.
