The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league-phase draw is officially underway today, Thursday, August 27, 2026, live from Monaco.
Following the completion of the play-off round on August 26, 2026, 36 elite European clubs are set to discover their eight league-phase opponents in the second edition of UEFA’s revamped “Swiss-model” format.

League Phase Format & Draw Rules
- 36 Teams, Single Table: All participating clubs compete in a unified league table.
- 4 Seeding Pots: Teams are categorized into four pots of nine based on their individual UEFA club coefficient.
- 8 Opponents per Team: Every club draws two opponents from each of the four pots (including their own pot), playing four games at home and four away.
- Country Protection: No club can face a team from its own domestic association in the league phase. Furthermore, a team can play a maximum of two opponents from any single foreign nation.
- Knockout Qualification:
- 1st–8th place: Advance directly to the Round of 16.
- 9th–24th place: Enter the two-legged knockout phase play-offs.
- 25th–36th place: Eliminated from European competition (no drop-down to Europa League).
