Alexander Zverev captured his first US Open title after defeating American opponent Ben Shelton in a four-set battle at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The top-seeded German delivered a dominant performance under pressure from a partisan home crowd to win 6-3, 7-6(7–2), 5-7, 6-2. The victory marks his second Grand Slam title of the 2026 season, following his breakthrough triumph at the French Open.

How did Alexander Zverev win the 2026 US Open title finals?

Zverev took charge from the opening set, breaking Shelton early to secure it 6-3. The second set proved much tighter as Shelton raised his level, but Zverev maintained his composure in the tiebreak, cruising through it 7–2 to move within a set of the championship. Serving for the match at 6–5 in the third set, Zverev encountered a fierce fightback from Shelton, who broke back and went on to claim the set 7–5.

However, Zverev quickly regrouped in the fourth set. He secured an early break and closed out the set 6–2 to wrap up the victory. The championship carries immense personal significance for Zverev, helping him overcome the memory of his agonizing loss in the 2020 US Open final to Dominic Thiem, where he had led by two sets.
