Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick recently provided an update regarding the club’s potential activity in the upcoming summer transfer window. During a pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Newcastle United, Carrick addressed questions about signing a new left-back, given Luke Shaw’s recurring injury struggles over the past few seasons.

Carrick on Tactical Flexibility

“It’s certainly a possibility, but I believe we remain a dangerous side regardless,” Carrick noted. “We have the depth to fill that position, so it isn’t an immediate crisis. While we’re always looking for the ‘perfect scenario’ in terms of player chemistry and tactical fit, we have internal solutions. Matheus, for instance, has excelled in that role, creating problems for opponents whether he’s playing wide or drifting inside.”

Addressing the Permanent Manager Rumors

When asked about the speculation linking him to the permanent managerial role at Old Trafford, Carrick remained composed but non-committal. He acknowledged the situation but emphasized his focus on the club’s future rather than his own job security.

“There’s no ignoring the situation, but there isn’t much I can add,” he explained. “I love my work here, and as I’ve said from the beginning, I’m not interested in short-term fixes. My responsibility is to make decisions that benefit the club’s long-term health, regardless of how long I stay. Winning games certainly helps, and the players are doing a fantastic job. We’ll just have to see where it leads.”

United’s Resurgence Under Michael Carrick

Manchester United has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround since Carrick took over from Ruben Amorim. Under his guidance, the Red Devils have climbed from sixth to third in the Premier League standings, securing more points than any other team in the league since his appointment.
