To ensure a seamless 2026 UTME registration and avoid last-minute delays, JAMB now allows candidates to generate and save their profile code before the official registration window opens.
This code is the foundation of your application. You must first possess a National Identification Number (NIN), as it is the mandatory prerequisite for the entire process.
How To Generate JAMB profile code – SMS Procedure
Generating your profile code is done via a simple text message. From your personal GSM number, type the word NIN, followed by a space, and then your 11-digit NIN. Send this message to either 55019 or 66019.
Example: NIN 12345678901
Important Phone Number Policy
The phone number you use for this SMS is critical. It becomes permanently linked to your name and will be used for all future communications regarding your examination and admission. Once the request is sent, you will receive a 10-character profile code on that same phone number.
Data Accuracy and NIMC Integration
Your personal details – including your name and date of birth – are pulled directly from the NIMC database. If there are any discrepancies in your NIN records, you must correct them at an NIMC office immediately. Once your profile code is generated, your biodata is locked in from the NIMC system and cannot be easily changed during the JAMB registration.
Troubleshooting Common SMS Errors
If you encounter issues while trying to generate your code, refer to the table below for the likely cause and solution:
| Error Message | Meaning | Solution |
| Error 550/66019 | Your SMS was formatted incorrectly. | Double-check the format: NIN [Space] 11-digits. |
| Number Already Registered | The SIM is already tied to a different JAMB profile. | Use a new SIM or recover the SIM originally used for that profile. |
| Unable to Verify NIN | A temporary connection issue with the NIMC server. | Wait a few hours and try again during off-peak times. |
