The pressure is on Chelsea to end their two-match Premier League winless streak when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Manager Enzo Maresca saw his side narrowly defeat Lincoln City midweek in the Carabao Cup, but the recovery was dampened by his strong dissatisfaction with the much-changed team’s showing.

Maresca is demanding a substantial improvement this weekend, aware that his team needs to shake off the memory of two demoralizing defeats to Brighton last season-most notably a 3-0 thrashing at the Amex. With a shaky start of just two wins in five league games, the Blues must avoid any complacency against Fabian Hürzeler’s formidable side.

Chelsea’s only comfort is Brighton’s poor away record, with two straight league losses on the road. Yet, the Seagulls arrive in high spirits, having just fired six unanswered goals past Barnsley and already snatching points from major contenders like Manchester City and Spurs. Adding tension, a number of former Brighton players now wearing Chelsea colours will face a squad determined to make their day difficult.

Chelsea Team News

Cole Palmer injury Premier League
Cole Palmer

Chelsea’s injury troubles persist ahead of the Brighton match. Cole Palmer will be out until after the October international break due to the nagging groin injury that forced him off just 20 minutes into the chaotic defeat against Manchester United last weekend.

He is joined on the sidelines by Tosin Adarabioyo (calf injury, also expected back post-international break), as well as Levi Colwill, Liam Delap, and Dário Essugo. Midweek’s Carabao Cup win added to the list of absences, with Wesley Fofana ruled out due to a concussion.

On the positive side, Roméo Lavia could finally return to the squad, having been unavailable since the FIFA Club World Cup. Both Marc Guiu (injury) and Josh Acheampong (illness) are expected to be available after missing the Lincoln City win.

In other selection news, Facundo Buonanotte is ineligible to face his parent club, while Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended following a failed drugs test.

Brighton Team News

Fabian Hürzeler confirmed a boost to the squad, with Mats Wieffer and Maxim De Cuyper both available, and minor injury worries for Yankuba Minteh and Brajan Gruda resolved, as they have been passed fit.

However, the Seagulls will still be without Jack Hinshelwood, Solly March, and Adam Webster. Crucially, the midweek 6-0 rout of Barnsley allowed Hürzeler to rotate heavily and rest key starters ahead of the trip to London.

One player who seized his chance is Diego Gómez, who is now almost certain to start after netting an astonishing four goals against Barnsley, including two spectacular long-range efforts. He is expected to feature in an attacking midfield role.

Brighton will have the added motivation of facing their former stars, including João Pedro, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sánchez, and Moisés Caicedo, now all playing for Chelsea.

Chelsea vs Brighton Correct Score Prediction

Chelsea faces a significant challenge this Saturday, struggling with injuries, most notably the absence of key player Cole Palmer. While the Blues have managed to win all three games played without him this season, his vital creativity will be sorely missed against a highly organized Brighton side.

The optimism surrounding Chelsea’s pre-season title talk now seems misplaced, given their worryingly patchy recent form. The team remains prone to unpredictable, sub-par performances, a vulnerability Brighton is perfectly positioned to exploit this weekend.

The Seagulls have a proven track record of unsettling top teams, demonstrated by their win over Manchester City and draw with Tottenham. Chelsea might get the upper hands against brighton, in the other hand Brighton will likely wants to settle for draw as well.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Brighton
