Xavi Simons joins Tottenham from Leipzig

Xavi Simons

Tottenham Hotspur has finalized a permanent transfer for Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

The club announced the deal on its official website on Friday, August 29, 2025, just three days before the summer transfer window closes. Xavi Simons, a 22-year-old from the Netherlands, signed a five-year contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2030, with an option to extend for two more years.

The decision to sign Simons for a whopping €60million (£51.8m; $70m) came after Spurs missed out on deals for Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, and lost James Maddison to a serious knee injury. Manager Thomas Frank hopes the young forward, who has also been linked with Chelsea, will strengthen the team’s attack.

In his first interview on the club’s website, Simons expressed his excitement, stating, “I am really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time. It’s a great Club and when I met the Head Coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me. I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”

How much did Leipzig get Xavi Simons from PSG?

Leipzig made the player available for transfer despite only acquiring him in January 2025 from Paris Saint-Germain for a permanent deal worth €50 million. Simons’ arrival follows the signings of Mohammed Kudus and João Palhinha on loan, as well as the permanent signing of Mathys Tel, who spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Spurs from Bayern Munich.
